Our Purpose
Community Art Studio of Skamania (CASS) is a registered nonprofit rooted in the Columbia River Gorge, dedicated to nurturing belonging, healing, and creative equity through art. We offer inclusive, low- or no-cost opportunities for individuals and families—especially those most often marginalized—to express themselves, share skills, and connect through the transformative power of art-making and dialogue.
At CASS, our focus is creating art with community and creating community through art. This guiding phrase reflects our commitment to co-creation, relationship-building, and the radical potential of shared creative experiences. Whether through open studio hours (called Art Hives), CASS Mobile Art events or CASS Workshops, we cultivate spaces that are welcoming, non-judgmental, and alive with possibility.
Our mission is to bring people together in the Columbia River Gorge to create art, foster connection and strengthen community by offering meaningful, accessible outlets for creative expression. We honor the therapeutic and empowering nature of the creative process, and we center recycled, repurposed, and donated materials as part of our commitment to sustainability and resourcefulness.
CASS began as a mobile art van and now continues to grow as a rooted studio space—still guided by the same spirit of generosity, adaptability, and joy. We remain devoted to meeting people where they are, and to building a culture of care through art.

About CASS

The Art Hives Model
The model we strive for in our studio is from The Art Hives Network. Art Hives connect small and regenerative community art studios (known as Art Hives) together in order to build solidarity across geographic distances.
These Art Hives offer small, accessible spaces for free community art-making in order to increase our understanding of ourselves, strengthen our relationships across divides, and build meaningful community life.

CEKC - Fiscal Sponsor
We are fiscally sponsored by Community Enrichment for Klickitat and Skamania County, CEKC. CEKC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation located in the Columbia River Gorge in rural southwest Washington State. Their mission is simple: To strengthen the social and economic well being of Klickitat and Skamania County residents. They do this by providing fiscal sponsorship, training, information and resources to help our local communities grow and prosper.
